2009 Apocalyptic Movie
We kicked off the year with the release of Knowing and then of course Terminator Salvation. Which although it has divided fans over its lack of humour in comparison to the original and its sequels, overall it was quite a good film that showcased some spectacular special effects. Also released was District9, the animated post-apocalyptic movie that features the voices of Elijah Wood and Jennifer Connelly, and of course the movie adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer prize winning novel The Road, which were released in September and October respectively.
November saw the the release of 2012, the all star apocalyptic disaster movie that’s based on the Mayan predictions of the end of the world. This is set to be one of the biggest box office hits of 2009.
Released on October 20th, after one week in stores, Transformers 2 has debuted as the biggest seller of the year. Paramount Home Entertainment announced that they sold around seven and a half million DVD/Blu-Ray units worldwide, of which 1.2 million were sold in US. This news was not unexpected considering the movie was also the biggest theatrical blockbuster of the year.
